An additional 50 sites across the city will receive full fibre broadband.
Chichester District Council is to enter into a new agreement with CityFibre which will see the ISP extend the rollout of their full fibre network.
The first phase of the county-wide project in West Sussex aimed to connect up 152 sites across towns and cities like Bognor Regis, Burgess Hill, Chichester, Crawley and Haywards Heath.
It’s currently in its final stages, with Chichester already completed, and is expected to go live sometime in early 2020.
Part of the funding for the project came from the government’s Local Full Fibre Network Fund which was setup to help local authorities with the deployment of fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) broadband
The new expansion would see a further fifty sites in Chichester connected up to the network.
It’s not yet known exactly which sites will be chosen. It’s been proposed that the Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and the Director Corporate Services should choose from the finalised list.
A suggested time scale for this new phase would have construction start in 2020 with the first sites being finished in late 2021 and a city-wide completion date of late 2022.
“Increasing the amount of gigabit capable fibre within the city will enable it to be future-ready, ensuring that it is not left behind,” said Chichester District Council.
